Welcome to the Wiltshire and Swindon Archives on-line catalogue
The first stage of our on-line catalogue project provided access to a detailed catalogue of wills, 1540-1858, held in the Wiltshire and Swindon Archives (also known as Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office).
The next stage of our project provides access to part of the remainder of our catalogues. It is our intention that by 2011 we will provide access to the whole of our catalogues. In the meantime 85% of our catalogues are available at http://www.a2a.org.uk, but it should be noted that Access to Archives does not contain amendments to catalogues or recent additional deposits.
As of autumn 2007, our on-line catalogue contains the whole of our parish record lists. It also contains a proportion of private deposits, the majority being early deposits within the range 1-1000. In addition it contains a proportion of official deposits, within the range A-L. In total, just over 20% of our catalogues are available. However it should be noted that there are plenty of gaps and this is very much work in progress.
Please note: These are catalogue entries for records held within the Wiltshire and Swindon Archives. They not available to view online. They are available to view in person at our facility in Chippenham or, where it is not a conservation risk, we are able to supply you with photocopies of the original document. Please contact us for more details.
Most records can be copied by one means or another. We will advise on what may be copied, the most suitable method and the cost.
You are welcome to visit and use the documents for yourself. You are welcome to take photographs using your own digital camera, provided you ask permission and pay a fee of £5.00 a day, first. If you wish to publish documents or make lengthy quotations you should first consult a member of staff.
