Bolehyde Manor is named from Thomas de Bolehyde, who was a landowner in the 14th century and presumably held a tenement in Allington. Later it probably came into the possession of the Snell family of Kington St. Michael, probably in the 16th century. The tenement, along with surrounding farmland, was sold to an enterprising widow, Olive (or Oliffe) Gale. When he died in 1606 William Gale, the elder, was a yeoman of Bolehides, while on a list of Wiltshire Freeholders of 1607/8 was John Gale of Bulhides. In 1875 Francis Kilvert noted "Old William told me the story of how old Squire Sadler Gale [died 1841] of Bulwich House at Allington made himself wings and flee off the garden wall. 'Watch I vlee' he cried to the people. Then he dashed into the horsepond." Olive's descendants owned the house until the early twentieth century when two generations of Gales elected to become priests, the first letting it out, the second, selling it off.

The manor house is a large mid 17th century building of rubble stone with ashlar dressings and stone tiles. Its origins are earlier and the lower rear range is possibly 16th century and there is an original Tudor-arched moulded fireplace at the western end. From the mid 17th century there is a dovecote with a weather vane inscribed ‘C.O. 1657’ and a pair of summer houses at the front of the house. The most noticeable feature of the house is the two storey porch topped by a balustrade with early Georgian life size busts at the front corners. A skirmish between Cornish troops of King Charles and the Roundheads is said to have taken place near here.
