Description

Planned Medieval town of New Sarum founded in AD1220.

 

Details

A planned cathedral city begun cAD1220 acknowledging pre-existing roads, with a grid street pattern, large rectangular market area, cathedral close and a system of watercourses. City bounded in S and W by the river Avon and N and E by city ramparts an extant section of which is Scheduled as AM736.
