In his will, my father left to my brother a beautiful Queen Anne walnut writing desk which he believed to have come originally from the Judges' Lodging in Salisbury when this was given up sometime in the 19th Century and then belonged to his grandfather Robert Robey of West Grimstead, Wiltshire. Recent research into the family history shows that Robert Robey, who was a gamekeeper, died in 1891 so he must have acquired the desk before that date. I wonder whether you have any knowledge of a Judges' Lodging in Salisbury? If so, I should be most interested to hear of its location and whether it still exists. Are there any records of its disposal? - probably in the second half of the 19th Century - even an inventory of its contents!
