Question:
When I was young, round about 1949, I lived in a cottage just outside Sherston called "Rough Hill". It was between Sherston and Sopworth. Alas the cottage seems to have disappeared completely but I was wondering if there are any records or photographs of it.

Answer:
On the Ordnance Survey sheet of 1963 there is a Roughill Farm, NGR ST 841857, marked to the south of the Sherston to Sopworth road. I would imagine that the access was from Shallowbrook Lane. The building is still there on the 1983 map but there is no track leading to it from the lane. The building has gone by the 1990s but on the latest map there does seem to be a track leading to its site!
