Note 1 Alfred Williams - 'This old Scotch song, I am told, was a favourite at Aldsworth and Sherborne, over three quarters of a century ago. I have also found Lord Ullin's daughter and Jock of Hazeldean in the village though they of course, are standard pieces and not folk songs. Copy of James West, Quenington.' Note 2 This text is appended to the words of 'What can a young lassie' and is an example of Williams recording the presence of a song but failing to note the words. Transcribed and edited by Chris Wildridge, 2007. |
