Sarah Bloom

Verse 1

A pretty girl came courting me,
Her name was Sarah Bloom,
She wanted me to marry her,
She said I was alone.
She said I was a nice young man,
And we may be well off soon -
But, I'll ask my mother and let you know,
Next Sunday afternoon.

Chorus

The kindness of that pretty girl,
I never shall forget,
She wanted me to marry her,
But I cannot see that yet.

Verse 2

Now Sarah Bloom, one afternoon,
She took me for a walk,
She took my hand and pressed it very hard,
And lovingly did talk.
She wanted me to play with her,
At night by the light of the moon -
But, I'll ask my mother and let you know,
Next Sunday afternoon.

Chorus

Verse 3

She made me a present of a watch and chain,
Besides a brand new hat,
For Sundays when I walk with her
That I should cut a dash.
As soon as she found I would not play with her
She wanted her presents back soon -
But, I'll ask my mother and let you know,
Next Sunday afternoon.

Chorus

Verse 4

If there's any young woman here tonight,
Would like to be my wife,
Let her step forward and I'll do
The best I can through life.
And if she's in a hurry,
We may be married soon,
But, I'll ask my mother and let her know,
Next Sunday afternoon.

Chorus
