NotesThere were many quaint sports and games held in the village and neighbourhood in bygone times, but they are all at an end now. The oldest of these festivals was called Lot Mead. This took place at mowing time, and was the opccasion for much merriment and feast making. There the leader of the games appeared wearing garlands of flowers, and the mowers were entertained with one pound of beef, and a head of garlic apiece.'
