the large Cowbridge House was rebuilt in c.1853, probably by Samuel Brooke who was at the house in 1855 and later, as a larger building, with a farmhouse to the north of it. In 1939 the House and the nearby mill were incorporated into and factory and the old buildings were extended and new workshpos and offices built. The factory was owned by E.K. Cole Ltd, manufacturers of 'Ecko' radio, electrical and electronic equipment. In the 1940s and 1950s radar eqipment was produced here and there were around 1,000 employees, After 1958 domestic electrical goods were produced. The company became part of the Pye group in 1963, which from 1971 was TMC ltd. After new buildings were erected in 1975 and 1982 the whole site was jointly acquired by AT & T and Philps Telecommunications UK Ltd.
