The Community Shop and Post Office opened its doors to the public on Saturday 19th February 2005 after several years work by many villagers. The shop is staffed by local volunteers and offers a range of goods including dairy products, bread, tinned and packet items as well as stationery, vegetables and the other items. They aim is to sell as much local produce as is practicable.

As well as the shop and post office the building also provides a local information centre complete with local notice boards. The Urchfont Community Shop Association runs the shop building. UCSA Ltd is a not for profit organisation owned by the community of Urchfont.
