This 70 feet long lock was completed by John Rennie in 1807 and the Kennet & Avon Canal was fully open by 1810. The wharf and lock keeper's cottage alongside had been completed by then. Coal was unloaded at the wharf and a passenger boat operated between here and Devizes until 1851.
