Notes
'One very old custom which of late years has died out was the Mummers at Christmas time. Several of the young men of the village used to dress up in quaint style and visit the houses of note, one character being Little Johnny Jack, with his wife and family at his back, which consisted of several dolls, large and small, representing this family. Another character was the village quack, who professed to have a cure for every ill, and various other items.'
