Shalbourne - Parish School, Shalbourne

The earliest record of a school at Shalbourne was to give 'bible education'. It was built by Thomas Kingston in 1843 and is now the village hall. Designed by C. Barker of Bath in a gothic style, the layout of the schoolroom was unusual in that all of the desks were placed to make the pupils face the walls. In 1855 it was stated that the school was conducted on the National principle, under the supervision of its founder.
