South Wraxall - Dr. Knight's Boarding School, South Wraxall

There was a boarding school for boys at South Wraxall Manor for a period during the early part of the 19th century run by Dr. Knight who had moved there from Frankley (now Frankleigh). The Visitor Books for the manor include fond memories from old boys of the school. In 1854 W.W. Fitzwilliam Hume, them MP for County Wicklow wrote in the book 'I spent many happy days in this house during Dr. Knights time, about 1820,' and in 1869 H.L. Bayley visiting with his wife from Netherhampton said 'Being at Bath for a few days I could not resist revisiting the old place, where I spent several happy years of my boyhood under the tuition of Dr. Knight. I was much pleased at finding that photographs had been taken of the manor house several of which I bought.' It seems that the school was a happy place.
