Sherston - Brayne's Free School, Willersley, Sherston

In 1758 Ann Brayne of Willersley left £200, yielding £10 a year. Half of this was to provide a school at Willersley and the other half to be distributed among the poor of that area. In 1818 there was a day school for six pupils while in 1846 seven boys and girls were being thought by a mistress who was paid £5 a year. All were taught to read and the girls were taught to knit and sew. It is likely that the school closed soon after this and both pupils and funding were transferred to the new National School at Sherston.
