Box 1810 The completion of the Kennet and Avon Canal meant that the Bath Stone could now be transported easily. Demand increased and new quarries were opened to compensate
Chippenham 1810 More than 12 cloth factories working in the town; Wilts & Berks Canal opens
Corsham 1810 Spire on St. Bartholomew's Church in dangerous condition and removed
Melksham 1810 By this time the Wilts. & Berks Canal is open - raw materials are offloaded at Melksham and finished products collected
Wilton 1810 69 weavers and 200 looms employed in the town
Wiltshire 1810 The Kennet & Avon Canal completed (57 miles). Coal can now be supplied cheaply to the textile factories in west Wiltshire and many begin to install steam powered engines.
